Online tools for identification of plants?

Does anyone know an online free tool that can help me identify a certain plant using it’s characteristics such as type of root growth, leaf etc.

Thx

yea, go to the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) homepage. there you will find a link to the national plant data base. the data base contains the same data sheets used by most for plant characterisitcs, identification, and alot more information on the plant. you can look up by common name or scientific name. the government uses the first two letters of the both the genus and species to catalog and look up plants. if there is two with the same four letters then they add a number to the end. hope this helps. you can also link from the nrcs and into the soil data base

The complete PLANTS list includes the symbol, scientific name, accepted name for synonyms or common name for accepted names, and family.
